Dauphin Island is a Barrier Island
located about 3 miles of the southern coast of Alabama. It stretches
almost 14 miles long but only the eastern 7 miles is inhabited. At its
widest, Dauphin island is only slightly more than a mile wide. The small
island to the south of Dauphin Island is an uninhabited island named
Sand Island. The body of water to the north of Dauphin Island is the
Mississippi Sound and the Intercostal Waterway though it is often called
“the Bay”. The body of water to the south is the Gulf of Mexico. |
